10 amazing facts about James Toseland

He maybe dull. But at least he's not hateable and dull like Pedrosa. So in honour of the most successful MotoGP Brit ever we give you ten amazing facts that you didn't know about James Toseland.

1. In 2001 the GSE racing team took a massive personal risk by signing Toseland to ride along side fellow dullard Neil Hodgson. In the past when certain feisty riders have joined up together in a team a so called 'electricity' has been created. When James and Neil joined up it was described more as 'butane gas'.
The risk didn't pay off for GSE however. Despite good results on the track the recorded incidents of self harm and depression rose within the team by a less-than-modest modest eight thousand percent.

2. JT was born in the smog encrusted cesspool of Sheffield. Sheffield is a poor city in the North of England. That's like not just being a turd, but being a rotten turd.
Toseland is by far and away the most successful thing to have ever been oozed out of Sheffield's orifice. Before him the northern shanty town could only boast of having two successes: A failed steel industry and the 13 piece loser band The Beautiful South - leaving the city with all the pedigree of an inbred mongrel.

3. Toseland is a classically trained pianist. But you'll already know this as every man and his mutt keep banging on about it. What you might not know is that James's mother wanted him to learn to play the drums or, at a push, the bass guitar so he'd have some friends at school. But single minded James kept true to his grey beliefs and continued with both his piano training and his alarmingly uninspiring haircut.

4. Superstar Toseland, just like Neil Hodgson, currently lives in the Isle of Mann but thankfully, unlike Hodgson, still has a career that's not as washed up as the Douglas bay driftwood.
Many successful UK racers, along with Neil Hodgson, live in the Isle of Mann. They claim it's because of the island's rich motorcycling heritage but everyone else knows it's just a way to avoid paying tax.

5. JT's manager is none other than the field filling club racer Roger Burnett. For several years Roger has been keen to get Toseland into MotoGP so that his drivel could reach a far larger audience. Now Roger's continuous tiresome comments are ignored instead of never actually heard.

6. Before the 2008 season began the faded yellow Italian Valentino Rossi claimed that Toseland should have moved to Honda instead of Yamaha. After the opening round at Qatar when JT out qualified and finished a fraction of a second behind him Rossi probably wishes he had.

7. When JT was 17 he dominated the national Honda CB500 Cup. Luck was on his side though as only a few seasons later the Honda CB500 Cup series was, in essence, replaced by the lottery that was the Ducati Monster Cup - a series that substituted skill with luck (i.e. only the luckiest of riders would ever manage to finish before an electrical fault halted proceedings).
More success followed as James won the World Superbike Championship on both a two-cylindered and a four-cylindered bike - something that the boz-eyed whiner Carl Fogarty could never manage throughout his career. With James having the courage to move permanently to GP racing means he's again stepping into territory uncharted by 'Failure Foggy'.

8. To sign JT Yamaha promised him that he'd get a full factory spec bike from day one. However they lied and for the opening round at Qatar gave Toseland an old nail with a crap engine. This may have been at Rossi's request or, more likely, to try to shut Burnett up for spouting his mouth off about how good a 'deal broker' his thinks he is.

9. James shed 5kg after his WSBK season to suit the MotoGP bike better. All this despite having only 6% body fat. This is why he's in MotoGP and Kenny Roberts Junior isn't.

10. JT is already far and away the most successful Brit in MotoGP. Before him the closest any Brit had come to success was when Jeremy McWilliams took second prize in the Aprilia end of season raffle.
